Martha Jo Latta

Martha Jo Latta, 84, of Raleigh, NC passed away on September 26, 2019. She was born on March 2, 1935 in Weber Falls, OK to the late Otto L. Howell, Sr. and Zelma Cox Howell. Martha was married for 52 years to Bennie H. Latta who preceded her in death in 2005. Also preceding her in death were her brothers Otto, Jr. and Jimmy and her sisters Juanita, Virgie, and Fetna. Martha loved to travel, enjoyed playing golf and was an avid bridge player. She was a talented crafter and made beautiful quilts and crocheted afghans. During the many years she lived in Raleigh she was a member of St. Philip Lutheran Church, The Women’s Club of Raleigh and The North Ridge Garden Club. She also enjoyed being a museum volunteer and a docent at the NC Executive Mansion. Martha is survived by her son, Chris Latta (Karen) of Raleigh; and her two daughters, Terri McKeehan of Orange Park, FL and Kelly Ellis (Bob) of Jackson, TN. She is also survived by nine grandchildren that she treasured Traci Ortega (Fredis), Jim Collins (Beth), Tami Roberts (Dale), Jason Sellers,Tina Raider, Tania Raider, Josh Latta, Beth Westmoreland (Nate) and Katie Latta. Martha was also blessed with and survived by nine great-grandchildren, Katelyn, Megan Leigh, Logan, Makenzi, Adison, Megan Elizabeth, Jacob, Kirsten, and Jameson. A small memorial service will be held at Sunrise at North Hills on Saturday, October 5th at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Transitions LifeCare, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607 or the Alzheimer’s Association of Eastern NC, 5171 Glenwood Ave, Suite 101 Raleigh, NC 27612.
