Obituary of Kirk Edward Phillips
Kirk Phillips passed away quietly with family members present at his home in San Francisco, CA. Kirk had fought a long & brave battle with cancer over the past few years, and was finally relieved of his pain and suffering on May 6, 2019. Kirk was born and raised in Springfield, Illinois, graduated from Springfield High School, and attended the University of Missouri in Columbia, MO. His major at the university was in interior and exterior design which eventually launched him into his career at the Shears and Window showroom at the San Francisco Design Center. He rose to Vice President of the company and managed the Textile Division. He was associated with Shears and Window for close to 30 years before his death. Surviving Kirk are his Mother, Carolyn Phillips of Hayward, CA, Father, Jack Phillips of Springfield, IL, Sisters, Kimberly Phillips-Ingram of Bainbridge Island, WA, Lee Ann Phillips of Portland, OR, Sandra Phillips of Wheaton, IL, Pamela Volz of Springfield, IL; Several nieces and nephews: Nicholas Ingram, Dana Freeman, John Lord II, Matthew Lord, and Emily Volz. Also several great nephews and nieces. Kirk loved living in San Francisco his adopted city. It was his desire to die at his home which was his pride and joy. Kirk and his mother bought the duplex in 2002. Kirk’s passion and hobby was remodeling it. He turned it into a magnificent home. Thanks to Hospice he was able to spend his last days at home in peace. Kirk was a very spiritual person. He was an everyday mystic. His passion for living prepared him for death. He accepted death as a part of his humanity and embraced death as part of his spiritual journey. We who were fortunate enough to share our lives with Kirk are forever grateful for having our lives enriched by him. Private services for the family will be held at San Francisco Columbarium & Funeral Home on May 22, 2019. A Celebration of Life for Kirk will be held at the San Francisco Design Center Galleria that evening from 5 to 7 p.m. and all friends, colleagues, and family are invited. For those who would like to donate a gift to a charity in Kirk’s name, please make your contributions to The American Cancer Society.
