Obituary of Alex Brown Jr.
Alex Brown Jr. Once upon a time, long, long, long ago, Alex was born to Alex and Julia Brown on February 7, 1924 in Karluk, Kodiak Island, Alaska. Ninety five years later, on June 29, 2019, that life would end. After high school Alex was a commercial fisherman until the war broke out and he joined the Navy. He was assigned duty on the carrier Yorktown. After his honorable discharge, he worked for several years in construction, commercial fishing, ski instruction and traveling throughout Europe. In the late sixties, he met Helen, a widow with three children. After a year of dining, dancing and drinking, Helen joined the Russian Orthodox religion. Alex and Helen married on October 1, 1969. While Alex improved his domestic skills (he once put potatoes in the oven without poking them — they exploded) to taking walkie talkies to the Puyallup Fair so you could find you partner faster, he and Helen took many road trips to other states. Helen was always the driver. They continued their party behavior until one day Helen said she’d had enough of it. A couple of years later, after treatment, Alex cleaned up also. When Helen died, Alex’s days were lonely. Finally he adopted a small black and white dog who was devoted to him. As Alex would sit outside, the dog would be next to his chair. When Alex was feeling unwell, the dog would be on the bed next to him. The dog, Lady, is still looking around the house for Alex now. Alex liked reading, jokes, watching Dancing With the Stars, bags of candy and skiing. He did volunteer projects with the VFW; St. Spiridons Russian Orthodox Church; and 15 years at Highline Hospital.
