Obituary of Irene Z. Lockman

IN THE CARE OF

Doane Beal & Ames

Irene Evelyn (Zaremba) Lockman was the only daughter of Polish immigrants Sophie (Lacic) and John E. Zaremba who came to America through Ellis Island. She was 94 when she peacefully died after a short illness surrounded by family . She was married to the late Herbert W. Lockman for 62 years. She has 2 daughters, Jan Irene Mason of Gainneville GA and Roxanne Lockman Verdeaux from Cumberland, RI. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren; Christine L Mason, Charles E Mason III, Stephanie A Mason, John L Verdeaux and Kristen S Verdeaux, and 4 great-grandchildren; Charles Mason IV, Katherine Mason, Cole English, and Cade Verdeaux. She worked as a draftsman for Wright Aeronautical in NJ until she started her family in 1947. From 1962 -1982 she worked as a dental assistant/hygienist until she and her husband retired to the Cape in 1983. She loved music, cooking, sewing, the shore, Hershey bars, crossword puzzles and volunteering at Cape Cod Hospital transporting patients (15 years -- she "retired" at age 86). Kindhearted, compassionate, creative, giving, funny and spiritually strong she was always generous with her time for others. She was a wonderful wife, mom, and aunt, adored her grand and great-grandchildren and she was incredibly loyal to her friends throughout her lifetime. She was in a group of 17 women friends who grew up together in Paterson NJ. They called themselves "the Sorority". No matter where on the globe they all were, they still had club meetings until they were well into their 70's, remaining close friends throughout their entire lives. Irene was the last one to pass. Irene will be memorialized at the Doane Beal and Ames Funeral Home in Dennis, MA on Saturday, July 6, 2019. Visiting hours will be from 4-6PM with a memorial service and reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cape Cod Health Foundation https://www.capecodhealth.org/ways-to-give/ways-to-donate/.
