Obituary of Peter Graham Berge
After an unanticipated, sudden illness, on Wednesday June 20, 2018 Peter passed away at St. Catharines General Hospital, at the age of 78 with son his Chris, grandchildren Mackenzie & Harrison, and cousin Artie and wife Maggie Graham at his side. Loving husband of 37 years to Meryle (nee Gibson). Proud and loving father of Dr. Brenda and Christopher Berge. Most happy, grateful and beloved grandfather of Mackenzie Hunter and Harrison Spencer Wood. Peter’s friendly and outgoing disposition was well known. He served as a Board Trustee with the Lincoln County School Board. Most fondly known in the community as “Whitie” Berge since childhood as a well accomplished hockey, and lacrosse player with best friend Wally Thorne. Peter was a proud team member for the 1961 Hastings Legionaires Lacrosse team that won the Minto Cup, and was on the last of the St. Catharines hockey teams to win the Memorial Cup in 1960, for the St. Catharines TeePees. In 2007, he was inducted to the Lacrosse Hall of Fame. In 2006, Peter was inducted to the St. Catharines Sports Hall of Fame with children, grandchildren and Wally Thorne by his side, receiving the honour at the event from Jean Beliveau of the Montreal Canadiens. Family will receive friends and well wishers at Hulse & English Funeral Home & Chapel, 75 Church Street, St. Catharines (905) 684-6346 on Sunday, June 24 from 7-9 pm. The family will also be receiving friends from 1-2 pm prior to the funeral service at the church. The funeral service will be held on Monday, June 25, 2018 at 2pm at the old St. Paul Street United Church (Silver Spire); 366 St. Paul Street. Interment to follow at Pleasantview Memorial Gardens. Celebration of Life at St. Catharines Golf Club at 5 pm.
