Obituary of Ronetta Joy Tweedy
Ronetta Joy Tweedy was born on January 23, 1935 in Durham, Oklahoma to Jesse and Rita Kent whom raised their children to be a close net family. Joy was the second out of five children which include Iona, Robbie, Dale, and Cheryl. Although Joy was born in the state of Oklahoma, she grew up in Texas, and Colorado, however she always said she was an OKIE! Joy was such an adventurous, active, and brave little girl. She loved playing basketball in Perico, Texas and killing snakes, walking barefoot, taking hot baths in front of a wood burning stove, and eating her mother’s biscuits. Larry Tweedy was the love of her life. They met in Elbert High School in Elbert, Colorado. Joy was a tenth-grade student and Larry an eighth-grade student. This was love at first sight! Larry shared a loving memory they both shared during school hours. They would leave each other love notes in each other’s desks. A funny fact about Joy, she would love speaking pig Latin with her sister Robbie, prank and scare people and most of all she would love to dance and roller skate with her husband and children. Larry and Joy married on August 17, 1955 in Elbert, Colorado. Their love for God and honor and respect for one another made their marriage unbreakable and stronger than ever. Their first house was bought in 1963 where they raised their four children Rhonda Slack, Karen Moberly, Janelle Schroeder and Doug Tweedy. As their children grew up and left to seek their own adventures and after retirement Larry and Joy purchased their first country home in Wiggins, Colorado. They have been married for 63 years and 8 months. When the Tweedy children were asked what they remember the most about their mother they said there are so many memories to choose from, but what made their mother stand out is the love she had for others. She was such a kind, selfless, giving, companionate, and loyal person. Her cooking is hard to mimic, and she was the best GPS navigator around. Joy and Larry have 17 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren. Joy considered everyone as her close friend. She enjoyed playing poopsie cards, sewing, crafts, hunting arrowheads, being an election judge, talking on the phone, and painting. The things her friends will miss most about her is talking to her, phone calls, and birthday cards. Her favorite saying “Been there, done that!” There are so many memories and attributes that can be shared about Joy. She was such an amazing person and care giver but her love for GOD gave her the opportunity to teach Sunday school and volunteered at Church events. She ended her battle with Alzheimer’s on May 6, 2019. Joy was preceded in death by her parents: Jesse and Rita Kent, her older sister Iona Stephens, and her grandson, Ernie Moberly. She’s survived by her husband Larry Tweedy of Wiggins, Colorado, her daughters: Rhonda (Jimmy) Slack of Spearman, TX, Karen (Byron) Moberly of St. Francis, KS, Janelle (Marlin)Schroeder, of Wiggins, CO, her son Doug (Lurdes) Tweedy of Wiggins, CO; 17 Grandchildren, 27 Great Grandchildren and one on the way; her sister Robbie Wills of Pueblo, CO, brother Dale Kent both of Pueblo, CO and sister Cheryl Hanratty of Beulah, CO. She will be forever cherished and deeply missed. Fond memories of Ronetta and expressions of sympathy for her family may be shared at the guest book below.
