Luigi Grella

Luigi Grella (1928 – 2018) Our family is so deeply saddened to announce the passing of Luigi Grella in his 90th year at the family home on June 26, 2018. Luigi was still grieving the very recent loss of his beloved wife of 62 years, Ersilia, but now they are united again forever in the peace of Our Lord. Luigi will be sorely missed by his loving children, Giuseppina (Philip) and Tommaso (Nanci) and his grandchildren, David and Lisa, Sara, Luis and Nicole who cherished their Nonno as such a special person in their lives. As an incredible brother, Luigi’s life is revered and embraced by his close-knit siblings, Angelina (Antonio), Giovanni (Battista), Michele (Giuseppina), Antonio (Donna), Antonietta (Rocco) and Gerardina (Michele). Luigi’s life will also be fondly recalled by so many cousins, nephews and nieces from the Grella and Calvano families as well as by all relatives, friends and neighbours whose lives he touched. Luigi was born on December 13, 1928 in Sturno (Avellino), Campania, Italia, the son of Tommaso and Giuseppa (Graziosi) Grella. He grew up in difficult times during World War 2, worked hard, served in the Italian military, and then made a bold move to immigrate to Canada. With his beloved wife, Ersilia, they worked with all of their strength to build a home and a family in Toronto. They generously assisted family members from Italy to join them and begin a new life in Canada. Luigi will be remembered by all of us as a dedicated, hard-working and affable person who loved his family and devoted his life to provide and care for them. Luigi is the rock, the cornerstone of the Grella family in Canada, and this will never be forgotten. Rest in peace with Ersilia and your family! Visitation to celebrate Luigi’s life will be held at Delmoro Funeral Home, 61 Beverly Hills Dr., North York, Sun., July 1, 6 to 9 PM and Mon., July 2, 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 PM. A Holy Catholic Mass will be celebrated at St. Fidelis Church, 33 Connie St., North York on Tues., July 3 at 10:00 AM. Entombment will follow at Prospect Cemetery, 1450 St. Clair Ave. W.
