Frieda Di Gregorio

Frieda Di Gregorio, born Filomena Fribonia (nee Dino), of North Bergen, NJ, formerly of Palisade Park, Jersey City, NJ, Union City, and hometown North Bergen, NJ, passed away on Friday May 31, 2019, surrounded by her loving family; Devoted Mother of Daughter Joanie Stokes (nee Briscoe, North Bergen, NJ); Son, the late Robert Joseph Di Gregorio (formally of North Bergen, NJ); , beloved Grandmother of Jaden Ashely Stokes (North Bergen, NJ); and Son-in-Law Michael Stokes,(North Bergen, NJ) Born In Messina, Sicily on July 25th, 1926 of the late Filomena (Noni) Dino and the late Dominick Dino, who worked as a potato farmer in Ohio to bring his wife and baby daughter to America via boat in 1926. They sailed into Hoboken, NJ and settled in Palisades Park NJ. Frieda was the oldest of the 9 children; Dear sister of Victoria Morrison (Palisades Park, NJ); Sandra Trappedi (Lexington, SC); Frank Dino (Dumont, NJ); The late Dominick Dino (Dumont, N J); The late Frances Fischer (formally of Bogota, NJ); The late Marie Badolato (formally of Guttenberg, NJ); The late Josephine Hartwick (formally of Paramus, NJ); the late Salvatore Dino (formally of Palisades Park, NJ), and the late Margaret Dino (formally of Palisades Park, NJ); Loving aunt and great- aunt to many nieces and nephews. In 1972 Frieda moved to North Bergen, NJ with her two children, and made a home on 26th Street, where she lived for 48 yrs. She worked for Township of North Bergen as a park attended on 28th St. in NB, where she would spend countless hours not only looking after the safety of all the neighbor kids, but would sit for hours and talk to anyone who came by for a chat. She then became a school crossing guard on the bridge to McKinley School; later worked in the North Bergen High School cafeteria until 1986, and then worked for North Bergen Board Of Education for 20 years as a matron for Franklin School until she retired at the age of 79. Frieda was truly a kind and loving woman to anyone lucky enough to have met her. Her door was always open and she was always readily available with a warm smile and friendly ear to anyone who needed a friend. You never left her house hungry or her presence feeling alone. She was a loyal and dedicated mother to both of her children, and an eternally loving grandmother to her granddaughter. She will be missed greatly. Funeral services will be held on Saturday June 8th, 2019 from 1-3 PM and 5-7 PM at Leber Funeral Home, 2000 Kennedy Blvd, Union City, NJ. Memorial service will be at Leber’s on Sunday June 9th, 2019 at 10 AM; followed by the burial at Hoboken Cemetery 5500 Tonnelle Ave, North Bergen, NJ 07047.
