It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, Brother and Uncle, Ian. He passed away peacefully in hospital following a short illness but lead a full and active life all of his 94 years. Born in Dropmore Manitoba, Dad and family moved out to North Van before WWII. After leaving school, he worked at Burrard Shipyards to help support the family. During the war, he joined the Navy where he served in the Merchant Marines and became a steam engineer, first class. He left the Navy after the war for civilian life. He met the love of his life, our Sheila. They settled down in a modest home in South Van and he landed a job at the American Can where he quickly became Chief Engineer and worked for over 33 years until retirement. He lost his precious Sheila in 2007 and for the past 4 years has lived at Shannon Oaks which he loved and was treated like the gold nugget he was. Dad was a true gentleman and a kind and humorous man and wonderful Father. He loved the great outdoors, skiing, hiking, camping, travelling and spending time at the cabin. Dad was a competent and devoted handyman and when not busy with the family, toolbag in hand, he would be either fixing everything for everybody, tinkering in the engine room of the SS Master steam tug or puttering at his workbench.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers please drink a toast to our Dad, a kind and gentle man and a long and prosperous life lived to the fullest. Cheers!
