Obituary of Paul F Svagdys, Sr.
Paul F. Svagdys, Sr. VIRGINIA BEACH- Paul Francis Svagdys, Sr., 81, of Ft. Walton Beach, FL, was born July 11, 1929 in Boston, MA. On April 4, 2011, after a brief illness, went to be with his Maker and Kay, his sweetheart and wife of more than fifty years. Paul was a founding member of the South Boston Chapter of the Knights of Lithuania. He was a proud Mustang, retiring from the U.S. Navy as an officer after twenty-three years of service. He later earned his teaching degree from Old Dominion University and taught Distributive Education at Bayside High School. Following retirement in Virginia Beach, and the passing of his beloved wife, Kay, “Were Dad” moved to Florida to live out his years with his youngest daughter, Chris, and her husband, John, where he taught math to his favorite student, his grandson, L J, they served to edify each other every day which brought Dad’s remaining years genuine joy. Paul is survived by his brother, Dr. Joseph Svagdys and sisters, Regina Smith, and Brenda Burke. Also left to cherish his memory are his seven children, Susan Amos, Patricia Shaner, Virginia Drennan, Paula Lantzer, Paul (Luke) Svagdys, Jr., Andrew Svagdys, and Christine Sanderson, as well as four grandchildren, Regina, Larry III, John IV (LJ), and Aja and many nieces and nephews. Our parents believed in the family unit and greatest wish is that we all remain close and take care of one another. In their memory we ask that you always “hold the rail” and your loved ones close. A celebration of Paul’s life will be held at Kellum Funeral Home, Rosewood Chapel, Saturday, April 9th at 11:00am. Burial will follow in Rosewood Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions should be made to the Covenant Hospice, 101 Hart St., Niceville, FL 32578. Friends may offer condolences at www.kellumfuneralhome.com.
