Obituary of Laurence Michael Woodard
Woodard, Laurence Michael passed away on June 24, 2019 at the age of 80 years. Laurence was predeceased by his parents Vincent & Clara (Kraemer) Woodard; brothers & sisters, Basil Woodard, Rita Woodard, George “Jess” (Shirley) Woodard, Liane Woodard and brother-in-law, Vern Hennan. Laurence was born on July 26, 1938 on the family farm at Colgate, Saskatchewan, where he was also raised. He married Margaret Whitteron on May 9, 1959 at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Tribune, Saskatchewan. Laurence worked for Addison & Leyen Oilwell Servicing and in 1976 moved to Williston, North Dakota to manage the company there. In 1983 he moved back to Weyburn and started his own company “Woodard Oilwell Servicing” which later became “Penwood Oilwell Servicing”. During this time Laurence also farmed the family farm. They also enjoyed their cabin at Kenosee Lake. Laurence was an athlete and enjoyed participating in all sports but was particularly fond of baseball and curling. In 2016 he was inducted into the Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame as an individual and again in 2017 as part of the Woodard Family Team. Laurence was also inducted into the Saskatchewan Oilpatch Hall of Fame in 2007. He was an assistant coach of the Weyburn Beavers Baseball team who won the Senior Canadian Championships in 1996, and on a curling team that won the Elk National Senior Men’s Championship in 1999 and 2000. Laurence was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church and on May 9th, Laurence and Margaret celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. They enjoyed travelling and would spend part of their winters in Honolulu and in the spring would go to Phoenix to watch Baseball Spring Training. Laurence will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 60 years, Margaret; daughter, Shelly (Clint) Mercer & family: Casey (Tony) Paquette & Dominic; Justin Sturm, Ashley (Chanse) Campanella & Aidan Mercer; daughter, Joann (Rory) Kizer & family: Lindsay (Kyle) Tornquist & Makenzie; Lee (Alyssa) Kizer; daughter, Michelle Woodard; son, Darren (Jennifer) Woodard & family: Chelsea, Megan & Levi; daughter, Shannon (Bruce) Miller & family: Nikole (Mike) Dorsch & Austin, Liam & Gavin; Cody Miller; son, Jason Woodard (Diane Vandermey) & family: Tyler Nimegeers, Keegan Woodard, Alexis & Hayden Vandermey. Laurence is also survived by his brother, Dennis (Laurette) Woodard; sisters, Doris (Jack) Cullen & Margaret Hennan; sister-in-law, Roberta Woodard as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Prayers were said on Friday, July 5, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. at Fletcher Funeral Chapel, Weyburn, Saskatchewan and the Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Saturday, July 6, 2019 at 11:00 from St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church, Weyburn, Saskatchewan with Father Francis Plaparampil presiding at both. Interment took place in Hillcrest Cemetery, Weyburn, Saskatchewan. Lunch and Fellowship followed at McKenna Hall.
