Obituary of Miriam Helen Dyck
Miriam Helen Dyck 1939~2018 Miriam Dyck passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 20, 2018 at the age of 79 years. She is predeceased by her husband of 58 years, John Dyck; her parents, Jacob and Margaret Schapansky; brother Wilbert Schapansky; sisters, Marjorie Rempel and Elma Klassen; brother-in-law, Victor Klassen and sister-in-law, Margaret Schapansky. Miriam was born on the family farm outside of Herbert, Saskatchewan on July 2, 1939. She worked as a nurse’s aide at the Herbert Nursing Home for a few years. Miriam married the love of her life, John Dyck, on October 12, 1958 at the Mennonite Conference Church in Herbert, Saskatchewan. Together they built their first home in Herbert and had three children, Sheryl, Blaine and Melody. John and Miriam moved to Swift Current where their fourth child, Tavia, was born. Miriam was a stay at home mom and kept herself busy with raising the four children. Her hobbies were bowling, baking, knitting, crocheting and sewing. The family also moved to Leduc, Alberta for about 6 months. Another move soon after took the family to Fort Qu’Appelle in 1975 where Miriam took on a cooking job at the Scenic Centre Café. In 1981 they made their final move to McTaggart where she resided until May of 2018. She stayed at home for a few years and then once again decided to resume her love of cooking and took a job at the Truck Stop Restaurant in Weyburn. Her passion for crafting, woodworking, cooking, gardening, baking and sewing, to name a few, always kept her busy. Miriam will be lovingly remembered by her children: daughter, Sheryl (Gordon) Shiplack; son, Blaine (Shelley) Dyck, daughter, Melody (Jim) Bull and daughter, Tavia Dyck (Darren Swanson); grandchildren, Steven Shiplack, Jason (Jennifer) Shiplack, Cody Dyck, Jenna Dyck (Jordan Wiest), Angela Dyck, Colton Dyck, Kaitlyn Brodziak, Jaileen Brodziak, Matthew Bull, Jessica Bull, Nathan Hallberg, and Jorja Hallberg; great grandchildren, James Thiessen (Shiplack), Alayna Shiplack, Hutton Johnson (Shiplack), Kayson Shiplack, Lexton Shiplack and Aedan Waggoner (Shiplack); brother, Wayne (Diane) Schapansky as well as numerous nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters in law. The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at the Allan Blair Cancer Clinic and Pasqua Hospital as well as the staff at Grace Hospice. A Graveside Service and Interment will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Herbert Cemetery, Herbert, Saskatchewan with Reception and Tea to follow at 2:00 p.m. at Herbert New Horizons, 605 Herbert Avenue, Herbert, Saskatchewan.
