Obituary of Mr. Arobindo Bose Kathanan
Vijay was born on April 9th, 1950 in Leonora, Guyana, the second of seven children of Jagranie and the late Albert Kathanan. After high school, he studied Electrical Engineering at Govt. Technical Institute in Guyana, where he met his future wife, Chandra. He went on to pursue further studies in England and on his return, worked as a Technician with Booker in Georgetown, Guyana. In 1977 he got married and started a career in the retail business. He also used his aptitude for working with electronics to supplement the family income. In 1994, at the age of 44, he emigrated from Guyana to Winnipeg with his family and within one year, established a local retail business in Fort Rouge. He ran the venture successfully for over 10 years. With more free time after he retired, Vijay was able to follow his passions. He took up gardening, fishing, photography and watching cricket. Anyone who knew him would agree he had a green thumb, enjoyed nature and the outdoors, and knew the best fishing holes. As a son and brother, Vijay was not only caring and compassionate but also dependable. His support could always be counted on, especially in times of need. He was a loving husband, a responsible father, and a doting grandfather. He had a small circle of friends with whom he kept in close contact. Vijay leaves behind his devoted and loving wife Karamdai (Chandra), dear children Richard, Joseph and Anthony (Jennifer), and grand children, Saint and Jordan. He will also be missed by his loving mother Jagranie; brothers Jaisaran and Vishnu; sisters Vashty, Vera, Diana and Rosana, brother-In-law Lenny; sisters-in-law Jennifer, Esther, Data, Paro, Saroj, Sabbie, Gaitrie, and Indra.
