Obituary of Ms. Iris May Glanville

IN THE CARE OF

Thomson Funeral Home

How lucky we are to have had someone who makes saying goodbye so difficult. It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Iris Glanville. She died peacefully November 26, 2018 at 23:35 hours at the Simkin Centre, which had been her home for more than six years. Iris was born July 28, 1914 in Chudleigh, Manchester in Jamaica to the late John and Verina Glanville. She was the eldest of eleven children – nine brothers and one sister. Left to cherish her memory are her five daughters: Louise, Cynthia (Jimmy), Daphne, Carmen, Beverley (Alfred); four grandchildren: Ingrid, Gillian, Tonia, and Wayne; seven great-grandchildren: Erick, Jamal, Alex, Tatiana, Zanae, China, and Felicity; one great-great-granddaughter Payton and two brothers: Charles Glanville in the UK and Jackson Glanville in Jamaica, as well many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Iris had a strong faith and was always putting God at the centre of her life. She believed that if one loves and serves God, then we must do what God expects us to do, which is to love and serve each other with kindness, respect and honesty. She loved children dearly, was always very protective of them, saying “they must never go hungry and always be loved”. Iris was very generous with saying “thank you”. The family wishes to thank the staff and everyone who took such great care of her while she was at the Simkin Centre. She always expressed her love and appreciation for the staff, saying “they are so good to me”. Iris adopted St. Georges Anglican church as her home church when she immigrated to Canada, she was very happy worshipping there. The family wishes to thank our church family for their frequent gifts of fresh flowers, cards from the Sunday school children, also the many visits, prayers and communion offered to her while at Simkin Centre. Cremation has taken place and a private family interment will be held in Jamaica. Instead of flowers and gifts, the family requests that any donations may be made to your charity of choice.
