Jerome Joseph Lamothe

Forever Loved, Never Forgotten... Jerome Lamothe passed away peacefully on June 15, 2019 at Riverview Health Centre. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Patricia in 2012. He will be dearly missed by their two sons and their families: Jeffrey, his wife Jillian, and their sons Thomas and Zachary; and Gregory, his children Jacob and Annika, and their mother Julie Lamothe. Jerry was born in St. François-Xavier, Manitoba to Arthur and Cecile (Richard) Lamothe, the 10th of 11 children. He leaves to mourn a large extended family including siblings Clem, Albert (Margaret), Andy (Shirley), Aline Marrin (Lindsay) and Gilbert (Carolyn) and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings Eddie (Margaret), Henri (Marion), Rosa Martineau (Alex), Rita Coulombe (Joe), Annette Schimnowski (Bruno), and Clem’s wife Pauline. Jerry and Pat were married in 1961 and raised their family on Neil Avenue in East Kildonan. They retired to their East St. Paul dream home on the Red River. Following Pat’s passing, Jerry moved to the Canoe Club condos. Jerry easily made friends with each new move and took advantage of what each home had to offer. On Neil Avenue he kept his yard pristine and his gardens beautiful; on Henderson Highway he had fun with his boat and the boat lift he crafted to hold it; and at the Canoe Club he enjoyed taking his new friends for long country drives to remote lunch locales. Jerry was a certified Millwright (Industrial Mechanic). In early adulthood he ventured to British Columbia to work, but returned to Winnipeg and ultimately worked for the City of Winnipeg, supporting the Greater Winnipeg Water District Railway. He was a skilled, creative craftsman. In his retirement he used his skills to create and refinish furniture, refurbish airplanes, and maintain his homes to perfection. His family knew that any breakage or breakdown could be addressed with a quick call to Dad. Jerry loved The Lake. At Willow Island, Spruce Sands, and finally Valhalla Beach, nothing gave him more pleasure than lake life. Be it working in the yard, stoking a campfire, tinkering in the tool shed, strolling the neighbourhood, or chatting with his family and neighbours …. The Lake brought him great joy. He taught his sons and grandchildren to appreciate nature, to take pleasure from working with your hands, and to drive a tractor. The family times spent together at The Lake defined the childhoods of his children and grandchildren and they are all now lake lovers themselves. The family would like to thank the health care staff who cared for him throughout a prolonged illness, particularly Riverview Health Centre for their care in recent months. The family will hold a private event to mark his passing. Flowers are gratefully declined.
