Obituary of Nicolaos Papadopoulos
It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Nick, husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 50 years Geri; sisters Eugenia and Nicole; sons John and Peter; and grandchildren Jennifer, Jessica, Nicholas, and Rebecca; and many nieces and nephews. Nick was predeceased by his Mom, Dad, sister Cathy, and brother George. Born in Merkovouni, Greece in 1946 he immigrated to Canada in 1963, where he met his lifelong friends Jim, John, and Chris. With hopes of a better life he took on odd jobs, such as a construction worker, cab driver, and welder, until he settled into the restaurant business. Nick started as a dish washer and worked his way up to owner. Owning many restaurants such as the Donald Street, J.N.A., and Pop’s. The Jolly Mug restaurant and Henderson Burgers and Subs were his pride and joys even after he semi-retired in 2012. Driven by passion he demanded respect, loyalty, and hard work from those who he did business and worked with; he was glad to return it with compassion, generosity, and good advice. It is here he made, and had, enduring friendships with business allies, staff, and customers. Some calling him by nicknames such as Papa Smurf, Bubba, Boss, and the Little General to name a few. During his spare time, he loved to watch sports, especially soccer; even going as far as coaching for many years. Nick led a community-based team, Isaac Brock, to winning many championships from the time they were 9 until they were 18. This is how and when he met his “French brother”, Maurice. With his success in soccer he found himself the president of the Isaac Brock Community Center and convener of the North West Soccer Association. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Thomson “In the Park” Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard. Today we mourn his death, tomorrow we move into the future with the lessons he taught us.
