Obituary of Susanna "Susie" Giesbrecht
Sadly missed and forever in our hearts. Mom passed away peacefully at the Bethania Personal Care Home with her family by her side. She has gone to be with her beloved husband Ben and son David, as well as siblings Herman (in infancy), Herman, Frank, Tina, and Dave. Left behind to cherish her memory are her sons Peter, Frank (Helen), and Art; five grandchildren: Tammy (Jimmy), Pam (Joe), Ken (Robyn), Wendy (Mike), and Dan (Ashley); 7 great-grandchildren: Julia, Alexander, Isla, Cyrus, Tessa, Michael, and Hailey; siblings Anne, Helen, Eva, Jake, Abe, and Pete. Mom was born near Hague, Saskatchewan and moved to Mayfair, Saskatchewan at an early age. She moved to Clarkleigh, Manitoba in September 1947 where she met Ben the same year. They married in June 1949, living near Oak Point, and had 4 boys before moving to Winnipeg. She was employed by the Misericordia Hospital and Concordia Hospital until disability in 1984. Mom was strong and reserved; a loving, devoted, and supportive wife, mother, and grandmother. She was great in the kitchen cooking and baking, loved gardening, camping, traveling, playing bingo and cards, collecting rocks, salt and pepper shakers and spoons. Mom and Dad’s travels included visits to relatives along with vacations in Hawaii and spending 8 winters in Mesa, Arizona. Mom never returned to her home after a knee replacement surgery in September 2006, moving from Concordia Hospital to Deer Lodge to the Maples Personal Care Home, and finally to Bethania Personal Care Home in August 2009. Her struggles with arthritis and joint pain diminished her quality of life. Special thanks to the staff of the Bethania Personal Care Home for their care, kindness, compassion, and dignity given to Mom during her 9.5 year residence. Funeral Service will take place at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, February 27 at Green Acres Funeral Home, Highway 1 East at Navin Road.
