Virgie was born July 18, 1928 in Cherokee, OK to Fred Nossaman Neal and Julia Esther Patterson. At a young age, her parents moved to Kansas where she grew up. In 1948, Virgie married Harold L. Woods in Kingman, KS. In 1957, they moved with their 4 children to Colorado. She worked for Martin-Marietta and retired after 30 years. While at Martin, she worked on the Viking Lander and Magellan Spacecraft. She became bored in retirement and after several years went to work at Vistar where she retired a few weeks shy of her 90th birthday.
Virgie is preceded in death by her eight siblings; Betty, Robert, Frances, William, Elsie, Bonnie, Patricia and Richard, her daughter Jerri Lynn Woods, grandson Cory Alan Woods and great-granddaughter Aleah Juliet Walters.
Virgie is survived by her son Mark Woods (Terry), daughters Susan Purcell (John) and Jan Woods; 6 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and 4 step great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 15 at Livingston Funeral Home in Kingman, KS. Graveside services will follow at 10:00 a.m.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday June 19 at Olinger Hampden Mortuary, 8600 E. Hampden Ave, Denver, CO 80231.
