History

The Evangeline family of funeral homes have been a fixture in the Acadiana region of Louisiana for many years. The first funeral home was (and still is) located in New Iberia and was originally a private residence. This 2-story antebellum home was built between 1901 and 1904 by the Dietlein family on its original site.

In 1940, the home was purchased by the Cletus Landry family and opened in 1941 as Evangeline Funeral Home. As the years went by and business grew, locations were opened in St. Martinville (1951) and Delcambre (1960). The need arose in 1955 to add additional parlor space to the New Iberia location.

On November 6, 1986, Dalton L. Babineaux, Jr. purchased the funeral home from the Landry family and operated the business until 1997.
