In 1972, Butch married the love of his life, Betty Jean. They were soulmates and were inseparable for 42 years until Betty went to heaven in 2014.
He loved to take Betty camping and enjoyed the simple things in life, such as sitting around a campfire and spending quality time with family and friends.
Butch loved animals, and there was a special place in his heart for his sweet dog, Angel. She loved Butch with her whole heart and was at his bedside when he drifted into heaven.
He was a precious PawPaw who loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He taught them all about fishing, how to play UNO, and how to build sandcastles at the beach. He also had a special bond with his daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Earl White. He loved them very much. They took care of him during his battle with cancer, and Diane never left his side.
Butch cherished his friends and was blessed to have lifelong friends David Booth, Hamilton Guin, and Bill and Patsy Ethridge. He was retired from BF Goodrich and was a member of Coker Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Cook; parents, Thelan and Geraldine Cook; in-laws, Roy and Floy Pate; and granddaughter, Jennifer Marlow.
Butch is survived by his daughter, Diane White (Earl); sister, Brenda Odom (Bud); stepsons, Mike and Tim Marlow; grandchildren, Chasidy, Chad, Krissi, Brian, and Jeremy; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Dustin, Heaven, Remington, Turner, and Trey; a host of nieces and nephews; and his loyal dog, Angel.
A private graveside service will be held on Monday, May 18, 2020 at 11:00am at Coker Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Earl White, Chad White, Hamilton Guin, David Booth, Turner White, Trey White, Jacob Gaddy, and Cole Sandlin.
In lieu of flowers, spend time with your children, take a walk on the beach with your loved ones, and make a toast around a campfire to enduring friendships lifelong and beyond. That is what Butch would wish for you. Roll Tide.
