Jacalyn "Jackie" Vincie Haas

Jackie was born to Jack and Vera Hill (Picketti) in Vancouver and grew up in Cumberland. Cumberland always held a special part of her heart, in particular the early days of working at the family’s grocery store, FRELONE’S.

Jackie graduated from Georges P. Vanier High School in 1968 and began her career as a certified dental assistant. She spent several years as the front-end manager at Driftwood Dental, where she made many life-long friendships.

In June 1970, Jackie married her teen sweetheart, Donnie Haas. Meghan and Jordan joined the family in 1974 and 1978, and eventually the young family settled on Haas Road in Royston, where Donnie had grown up. Both Jackie and Don loved gardening and their beloved ‘yard’ was a tribute to their skills.

Jackie later pursued a career in real estate and for many years was a respected and dedicated realtor with Re/max Ocean Pacific. She and Donnie shared a love of travel and were able to venture to many parts of the world, sharing incredible travel memories with both family and dear friends.

Jackie was an active and valued member of Cumberland Community Church for the past 35 years. Her quiet faith gave her strength and a deep peace, especially in the past few years following Donnie’s sudden and unexpected death in January 2018, and her own cancer diagnosis in June of the same year. She persevered without complaint, even throughout the past several, pain-filled months.

Jackie is predeceased by her husband Donnie (2018), her parents (Jack-1976 and Vera-1995), her brother, Norm (1986), sister Faye (1991) and sister-in-law, Colleen (2013). She is survived by her daughter, Meghan (Tyler) Alderson, and son, Jordan (Shaan) Haas, as well as the delights of her life, grandchildren Samuel (5) and Petra (4 months). Samuel and Petra brought so much joy to their beloved G-Mama! She is also survived by her sister, Judy (Ron) Hamm, her beloved ‘person’, niece Emma Jacalyn, the extended Haas family, and many beloved and cherished nieces, nephews, and cousins. She also leaves a host of dear friends who have stood with her in both joy and sorrow—'Driftwood Drama’, ‘Anticipation’ and Bible Study girls… all who loved and valued Jackie deeply and will miss her profoundly.

The family would like to thank everyone who supported and loved Jackie when she needed it most. We would also like to thank the Cancer Care Team at North Island Hospital, Dr. Daniel Wainberg and the incredible staff at the Comox Valley Hospice for their loving care for Jackie and patience with all of us! Jackie so desired to stay at home. Many helped with this until it was no longer physically possible. The hospice was truly a wonderful transition home for Jackie and a huge blessing for her family and many friends.

A celebration of Jackie’s life will be held when possible again.
