Celebrating life

Mount Pleasant Universal Funeral Home features a chapel with pew seating, stained-glass windows and a piano for large services, as well as a more intimate space with comfortable leather sofas for a family viewing or a small service. A reception area allows for catered gatherings before or after a service. The funeral home interior was refreshed in 2019.

Our staff believes each service should reflect the life of the person being honoured, so we help families create memorials that not only celebrates life but also provide comfort. For your convenience, our funeral home is also associated with many cemeteries in the Vancouver area, including Forest Lawn Memorial Park and Ocean View Burial Park.

Specializing in Chinese Funerals

Mount Pleasant Universal welcomes and respects families from all cultures. Our compassionate team is well-versed in a wide range of funeral traditions and rituals and speaks English, Mandarin and Cantonese. We perform many Protestant and Catholic funerals, but Asian funeral traditions are our specialty. We take pride in understanding various Chinese funeral customs and have a depth of resources to draw from when needed. Our funeral chapel is the only one in the area that accommodates the traditional Chinese Taoist practice of burning of joss paper.

Community involvement

We are proud to be the oldest original funeral home in the Vancouver metropolitan area. We are members of the British Columbia Funeral Association as well as the Funeral Service Association of Canada and the Mount Pleasant Business Improvement Area. Our associates also support community groups, including the Hellenic Community of Vancouver and the Alzheimer Society of British Columbia.

History

Mount Pleasant Universal Funeral Home opened in 1914 and has served families in the Vancouver, British Columbia, area at its current location since 1927. The funeral home has remained virtually unchanged, with some slight renovations in 1950, 1985, 1998 and 2019, during which the furniture and fixtures were replaced or refinished. The building's exterior is Spanish style with a metal-tiled roof, beautiful brick and stucco construction with vinyl siding.

We are proud to be the oldest original funeral home in the Vancouver metropolitan area. Over the years, our funeral home has combined with Nunn & Thomson Funeral Home and Simmons & McBride Funeral Home, both of which closed several years ago. Mount Pleasant Universal Funeral Home is now a proud member of the Dignity Memorial® network of funeral, cremation and cemetery service providers.
