John Charles Bohan was called home to be with the Lord on Monday, December 23rd, 2019, at the age of 91. He is survived by his loving wife, Edith, of 55 years; daughter Nancy Navarrette; grandson AJ Navarrette; and son Robert Bohan, and will be greatly missed!
John was born in March 1928, in Chicago, IL, to Elizabeth and John Bohan Sr (a veteran of WWI and WWII). John earned his Bachelor's degree from Northwestern, Master's from the University of Illinois, and PhD from Rutgers University. After graduating, he taught English courses at DePaul for 23 years. Then after he retired, John still assisted foreign students with their English in Kentucky, North Carolina, and here in New Mexico.
John led monthly meetings for the Benedictine Oblates in Albuquerque, where we prayed the Liturgy of the Hours and covered St. Benedict's Rule, which can be summed up in the motto of the Benedictine Confederation: pax ("peace") and the traditional ora et labora ("pray and work"), which John greatly exemplified in the way he led his life.
John loved being with family and friends, going to the movies, and working with students, which he did well into his 80's.
The Rosary and Funeral service for John will be held on Friday, January 3rd, 2020, at 10 AM at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 7999 Wyoming Blvd NE in Albuquerque, NM.
The family would like to extend a special thank you for the excellent care given to John by the staff at Avamere Assisted Living in Rio Rancho, Lovelace Westside Hospital, and the Genesis Healthcare Facility in Rio Rancho.
Donations in memory of John can be sent to Assumption Abbey, 418 3rd Ave W, Richardton, ND 58652, or from their website at http://www.assumptionabbey.com/index-donations.htm.
