Darlene was a native of Florida, born in Umatilla on May 1, 1933, to Roy and Lucille Beasley. She grew up and lived most of her life in Winter Park. She graduated from Winter Park High School in 1951, and began her career with the Florida Division of Real Estate. She served as the Director of the division, the first woman to do so, prior to her retirement 41 years later.

She was a Christian, attending the South Bumby Church of Christ. Her strong faith and deep study of the Bible gave her peace throughout her life and in her final months.
A memorial service will be held at South Bumby Church of Christ, 3940 S. Bumby Ave, Orlando, February 11. The visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. followed by an 11:00 a.m. service.
