Of Buffalo Grove
Joan Hrycak was born on June 25, 1939 in Chicago, Illinois to John and Anne (nee Chrusciel)
Loris. She died Sunday, September 26, 2021 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Joan started out in bookkeeping at Continental Bank and Colonial Bank in Chicago. Joan had a
great experience working for Sears Outlet, and spent more than she made. Joan had the
privilege of working for St. Mary’s School in Buffalo Grove as the head lunch lady. From there
she worked part-time for Long Grove Confectionery for 25 years and retired working for JC
Penney. Both jobs best suited her fun-loving personality. Joan had fun at what she did; working
was not a hardship. Her favorite job was being a homemaker and a wife to Stan and mother to
Kim.
Joan was a Girl Scout leader and a member of St. Lydia’s Guild Women’s Club. Joan loved
playing the slots, bingo, and all activities that involved her family and friends. Joan enjoyed
spending her summer months on the farm in Northern Wisconsin where she adapted to farm life
with ease, baking, canning and such. Joan was a huge Disney fan. She traveled to Disneyland
and Disney World several times throughout her lifetime and has all the memorabilia to prove it.
Joan adored her two grandsons and took every opportunity to spend time with them playing
games, outings, movies and good olde fashion fun. Joan embraced being surrounded by
people. Joan had an infectious laugh and a million-dollar smile. Joan had a heart of gold and will
be missed greatly by her family and friends.
Joan is survived by her spouse of 61 years Stanley Hrycak, Jr.; her daughter Kimberly (Michael)
Koch; her grandsons Thomas Jay Hrycak Koch and Andrew Louis Koch; her brother Ronald
(Kathy) Loris; her nieces and nephews Danette (Jim) Heim, Mark Maynard, John Maynard, Lauri
(Steve) Berger and Ellen (Joe) Pittenger; her great-nieces and nephews Sam Heim, Josh Heim,
Chase Heim, Abigail Berger, Annie (Joe) Dougherty, Sarah (Sky) Andrecheck and many
cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents as well as her sister Deanna (Mitch) Maynard.
