

Herbert Paige Gordon Herbert Paige Gordon, age 90, passed away on July 2, 2005 at home after a courageous and determined battle with acute leukemia. He was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee on June 13, 1915 to James Buchanan and Julia Elizabeth Dunn Gordon. Herbert moved to Waco, Texas at age 4 and then to Austin at age 8. His original Austin residence, the Gordon-Brizendine home, is now designated as a state historical landmark by the Texas Historical Commission. He attended Pease Elementary School, John T. Allen Junior High and Stephen F. Austin High School where he graduated in 1937. He retired from the State Board of Insurance in 1977 where he was Conservator. He was a member of St. Davids Episcopal Church for over 50 years where he served as an usher for over 40 of those years. He also was a member of the Austin Country Club, Headliners Club and the Mercedes-Benz Club of Austin. He was a Master Mason for nearly 60 years, a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, a 60 year member of The American Legion and a disabled veteran of World War II. He is survived by his beloved wife of almost 60 years, Bettye Lyons. Also, his daughter, Sharon Gordon Cofer, son, Matson Paige Gordon and wife, Deborrah Elaine, of Austin; grandchildren: Chesleigh Paige Cofer of Dallas and her fiancé, Blake Lloyd of Fort Worth, Garhett Matson Gordon of Fort Worth, and Gregory Williams Gordon of Huntsville, step grand-children: Courtney and Cass Finn, John Kolle Stefka and James Connor Stefka of Austin and one niece, Betty Massengale Roeglin of Austin. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Tuesday, July 5, 2005 at St. Davids Episcopal Church followed by committal at Assumption Cemetery. His cherished feline companion, Clem, will accompany him. A special thanks to Dr. Earl Grant, Dr. John P. Schneider, Dr. Robert Kerr, Dr. John Pederson, and Dr. Jeffrey Kocurek for their loving care.
