
Betty Bernard, 81, was born in Houston on June 27, 1929, and passed away in Baton Rouge on Tuesday, June 21, 2011. She was a longtime resident of Central City and retired from the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources in January 1992. Betty had been married to Joseph T. Bernard Jr. for 55 years until his passing in 2003. She loved the music of John Gary whom she named her last son after. Her hobby for many years was bowling. She is survived by five children and their spouses, Sandra and Dun Stockwell, Michael and Diana Bernard, Taylor Bernard, Becky and Randy Kennison, and John Bernard; grandchildren and their spouses, Rick Stockwell, Stephanie and Barrett Hunter, Natalie Stockwell, Jason and Kristie Bernard, Shaun Bernard, Brian Wells, Amanda Wells and Brandon Bernard; 10 great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandchild; four sisters, Gloria Sanchez, Carolyn Ward, Linda Joly Gregory and Jean Joly Ezell; numerous nieces and nephews; and beloved pets, Princess and Twinkles. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph T. Bernard Jr.; mother, Ivy Joly; father, Selby Tullier; and brother, Gerald Tullier. Pallbearers will be Rick Stockwell, Brian Wells, Jason Bernard, Shaun Bernard, Reid Bernard and David Sanchez. Honorary pallbearer is Brandon Bernard. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Monday, June 27, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visitation at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church on Tuesday, June 28, from 10 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., celebrated by the Rev. Michael Moroney. Burial in Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
