Stanley A. Szwed Jr.

He was raised in River Rouge, Michigan, attending River Rouge High School.

In the summer of 1955, Stanley left high school to enlist in the United States Marine Corps. He served for four years, earning his GED certificate and an honorable discharge.

Upon returning to Michigan, Stanley worked as a clerk for the Detroit News and raced cars in his spare time, becoming a skilled auto mechanic.

He met the love of his life, Rosanne Marie Gammie in 1963 and they were married two years later on May 22, 1965. They would have four children, and moved from River Rouge to Brownstown Twp. in the summer of 1976, residing there for more than thirty years.

Stanley worked for General Motors as a lineman and skilled tradesman for thirty years. He worked at the Fisher Body Fleetwood plant on Springwells Ave. in Detroit, MI before finishing his career at the Detroit/Hamtramck Assembly plant, better known as “Pole Town”. He retired in January 2001 to spend more time with his family.

Stanley was born again in Christ later in life and was baptized at Beacon Baptist Church where he and Rosanne have been members for many years.

Stanley enjoyed spending time with his family, attending church services and watching sports and auto racing with his wife. He was a quiet, hardworking and humble man who was well respected and loved by those who knew him. He had a tremendous sense of humor and loved frozen custard.

He is survived by Rosanne, his loving and faithful wife of 53 years; brother Robert A. Szwed; sister Mary Ellen McKie; sons Stanley Christopher (Kelly) Szwed of Allen Park and Matthew Damien (Julie) Szwed of Lincoln Park; daughters Julie Marie (Jess) Applegate of Dillon, Montana and Rebecca Ann (Robert) Herman of Clinton Township; as well as eleven grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at 5pm followed by a memorial service at 7pm on Thursday, August 30, 2018 at Beacon Baptist Church, 21721 Northline Road, Taylor, MI 48180. Questions regarding the services may be directed to the church office at (734)287-3090.
