It is with sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Leonardo Cintron Rivera of Aurora, Colorado on the 15th day of October, 2020 at the age of 86 years. Leo will be lovingly remembered by his children, Robert Cintron, Leonardo Cintron Jr, Linda (Michael) Matthews, Deborah Cintron and Dianne Cintron, as well as ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. He was born in 1934 in Naranjito, Puerto Rico to Arcadio Cintron and Flora Rivera. Leo enjoyed a childhood of fishing, playing in sugar cane fields, baseball with sticks and stones and 5 cent movies with pan de Manteca (bread) hot from the oven and a coca cola. At the young age of seventeen, he enlisted in the US Army at Fort Buchanan, Puerto Rico. His career spanned 30 years from 1953 – 1983. He retired at the highest rank of Command Sergeant Major as a non-commissioned officer. He was a highly decorated veteran receiving three Bronze Medals for his valorous deeds in Vietnam as well as numerous commendation medals. His duties took him to Fort Lewis, WA, Korea, Vietnam, Germany, Panama and Fort Carson, CO where he retired. Following his Army career, he was a mail carrier in Colorado Springs, CO for the US Postal Service, retiring after 16 years in 2000. In his retirement, Leo loved to be outdoors tending to his vegetable and flower gardens. He had a special fondness for birds, and they for him as he kept his bird feeders overflowing with birdseed. Leonardo was preceded in death by his spouse Gwendolyn Welch of St. Albanes, Maine, daughter Karen (Jerry) Eddleman and parents Arcadio and Flora.
