

Ben is the living, loving memory of his children, Judy (Bruce) Llewellyn and David (Janet) Karasek; grandchildren, Jonathan, Rose, and Daniel Llewellyn, Megan Karasek (Carly) and Alyssa Karasek-Grzech ( Brendan Grzech), and great grandson, Ethan Llewellyn. He is lovingly remembered by his sisters-in-law, Jennie Niznik, Elizabeth White; many nieces, nephews and their families as well as by many friends. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Olga (Woycenko); brother, John, and parents, Frank and Mary (Ondrus). Ben was born in Czechoslovakia and immigrated to the family farm at Tilley, AB when he was four years of age. After high school in Brooks, he served with the Canadian Air Force, then studied at SAIT. In 1952, he married his wife of forty two years, Olga Woycenko. He worked for the City Of Calgary as an Engineer’s Assistant until retirement. Ben held leadership positions in some of his interest areas which included: the Cambrian Heights Community Association, the Calgary Rock and Lapidary Club, the Canadian Chinese Friendship Centre of Calgary, Calgary Catholic Immigration Society, Aboriginal Friendship Center of Calgary, the Calgary Seniors Outdoor Club, Tools for Peace, Canadian Cuban Friendship Association, Camera Club of Confederation Park, and Model Airplane Club. Together with Olga, they kept the truth of being their brother’s keeper, and spent their lives loving and serving family, friends, and immigrants.
Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at a visitation held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 between 7:00 p.m.- 9:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life honoring Ben will be held on Thursday August 28, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. followed by a reception until 1:00 p.m. at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL. At a private burial, Ben was laid to rest with his beloved wife at Queen's Park Cemetery. If so desired, donations may be made directly to a charity of one’s choice.
