

She was born on May 10, 1926, the middle of 3 children to Henry and Anna (Rodenbeck) Brinkman in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was raised in Indianapolis on a farm (which is now a park), where she also graduated from high school. She then went to nursing training at Methodist Hospital. She met John Shaw after he returned from Korea through a mutual friend, and they later wed. A registered nurse, she and the family moved to Des Moines, Iowa, then in 1969 the family settled in Arizona. She retired in the early 80’s, and liked to watch basketball games (one of her favorite events was when she attended a Phoenix Sun’s game), Baseball, supporting the Diamondbacks, reading, and travelling, where she travelled all across the globe, visiting locales such as Greece, London. She also liked to tend to her flowers, watching hummingbirds, and she was skilled at transposing music.
Helen is survived by her daughters, Teri Shaw, Michelle Rosholm, Debie Clute (Larry); grandchildren, Kevin Graeb, Kyle Graeb, Kaitlin Rosholm, Kasey Rosholm; brother Paul Brink, nieces and nephews, and a great grandchild on the way. She was preceded in death by her husband, son Johnny Shaw and sister Clara Stickle.
Viewing/ visitation will be held on Monday, September 26, 2016, at Valley of the Sun Mortuary, from 9am until 10 am. Funeral service will be held at 10 am, followed by graveside service at Valley of the Sun Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to support pancreatic cancer research.
