Born on March 7,1935 in Cheraw, SC, she was the daughter of the late Rev. James Wilrich and Emmie Marvin Jones. Following High School graduation, she continued her education at Trevecca Nazarene School (College/University) to pursue a career in accounting. It was there that she met the love of her life and then married Rev. Mickey Gene Smith on August 27,1957.
Throughout her years of being a devoted wife and mother, she also served the church in every capacity imaginable. She taught Sunday School, led Women's Bible Studies, played the piano, sang in the choir, served as church secretary for multiple congregations, just to name a few. She had an incredible gift of hospitality. All who entered her home felt loved...and never left with an empty stomach!
Sarah had a love for Christ that was evident in everything she did. She had an amazing way of making everyone she came in contact with feel that love. Either by speaking scripture to them or praying with them for a specific need. She never spoke an ill word about anyone.
She loved her family fiercely. Her unconditional love was evident in the way she prioritized her families' needs above her own. She listened, encouraged, celebrated, counseled and prayed.
Sarah is survived by her son and daughter in law, Tim and Diana Smith of Fort Mill; her granddaughter and husband, Ashton and John Cassell of Rock Hill; her great-grandson, Bentley Merritt of Rock Hill; and her great-granddaughter, Avalyn Brumfield of Ashland, KY.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev Mickey Smith; her grandson, Timothy Smith; and her 6 brothers and their spouses.
A service to celebrate Sarah's Homegoing will be held at Fort Mill Church of the Nazarene, 109 Harris St., Fort Mill, SC 29715, on Saturday December 13, 2025. The family will receive visitors at 10:00 am with the service to follow at 11:00 am.
