Jean Arnold Carver, 82, left his earthly body on April 3, 2016. He has been described by many, including his friends, family, and even nurses and caretakers, as the kindest and gentlest man they have ever known. He was born on August 12, 1933, son of the late Reuben D. Carver and Sadie Young Carver. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Elizabeth (Irene) Powell Carver, his son, Jeffrey Carver, his brothers Francis Carver and Dabney Carver, and his beloved pup Tippy. Jean is survived by his daughter, Wanda Carver Watson, his best buddy and granddaughter Elizabeth Karen Watson, his grandson Ryan Watson, his twin sister Joan Leckie (Tom) and brother Tanner Carver (Ida,) a “second-son” nephew, Steve Powell, in-laws Cecil Powell (Loney,) Frank Powell (Delores,) and Sevilla Powell, longtime friend and big help, Marie Wilkerson, and other extended family and camping pals. A veteran of the Korean War, he endured a difficult mission to Germany at age seventeen. He worked for Frank Ix & Sons, as well as other local companies, and retired from Klockner-Pentaplast in the 1990’s. Jean loved classic country music and bluegrass, dancing to that music, going out to eat with family and friends, and spending time at the campground. He could figure out how anything worked and could fix most anything, including cars, classic guitars and 18-wheelers. Thanks to Dr. Struble, Dr. Hendrix, Dr. Nguyen, and Dr. Snustad for your loving and expert care. Thanks also to the nurses, especially Crystal, who treated him as she would have treated her own loved one, and to Hospice of the Piedmont. The funeral, led by Pastor Jeff Villio, will be held at 12:30 pm, Friday, April 8, 2016, at Teague Funeral Home. Interment will be at Chestnut Grove Cemetary. The family will also receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening, April 7, from 6-7:30. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Jean's name to Hospice of the Piedmont, 675 Peter Jefferson Parkway, Suite 300, Charlottesville, VA 22911 or a charity of your choice.
