

Aparna Mukherjee was born in Kolkata, India in 1942 into a family with 2 brothers and four sisters. Her father, Anil Chandra Banerjee, was an author who wrote more than 50 books in his lifetime. Her mother, Lila Banerjee, ran the household until her untimely passing in 1979. Aparna grew up in Kolkata and attended Presidency College, obtaining a doctorate in History and later teaching there until her marriage to Shishir Kumar Mukherjee in 1973. The couple moved to the United States and then returned to Ahmedabad, India. After their son Kaushik was born, they returned to the United States permanently in 1980, living in Cupertino, CA. Aparna focused on raising Kaushik until she returned to work in the late 1980’s. After a brief stint at Hewlett-Packard, she settled into a career as an archival specialist at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University until her retirement. She moved to Rancho Cucamonga in 2017 to live with Kaushik and his wife Natalie, and she resided there until her death.
Aparna enjoyed reading, staying up to date on current events, and living with family. She looked forward to returning to India to visit her sisters, which she did in 2018.
She is survived by her son Kaushik, his wife Natalie, her sister Sarmila, her brother Amitabh, her grandchildren Konika, Arjuna, Juliana, and Andrew.
Aparna’s devotion to family, determination to live and remain active through illness, kindness, and generosity will be deeply missed by all those who love and miss her.
