

Jack Lavendar Moore April 1, 1916 - December 6, 2009 COLUMBUS, GA— Jack Lavendar Moore, 93, passed away at Spring Harbor on December 6, 2009 after a long illness. He was surrounded by family and loved ones at the time of his passing. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Macon Road with the Revs. Mike Ricker and Matt Avera officiating. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday December 8, 2009 at the Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Macon Road. Mr. Moore was born on April 1, 1916 and was a lifelong resident of Columbus, GA. Mr. Moore was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his participation in the Normandy Invasion in 1944. He received a Purple Heart for injuries sustained in battle. After the war Mr. Moore was manager and later owner of Shell Moore Furniture Co., and he also owned and operated a cattle farm in Seale, Alabama for 23 years. Mr. Moore was a member of Sherwood United Methodist Church. Family members who predeceased Mr. Moore were his loving wife, Dolly Moore; his parents, John Thomas Moore and Pearl Moore; sisters, Ruth and Nell Moore; brothers, Perry and Thomas Moore; a son, Vaughn Moore and a grandson, Marc Moore. Surviving family members are a son, John Thomas Moore II (Toni) of Fortson, GA; a daughter, Mary Nell Blasingame (Mike) of Columbus, GA; grandchildren, Michael Moore (Gwen) of Cape Elizabeth, Maine, Steve Moore (Tina) of Fortson, GA, Jackie Moore of Decatur, GA, Emily Balboa (Derek) of Columbus, GA, and Michael Blasingame of San Antonio, Texas. Mr. Moore is also survived by great grandchildren, Juliet Moore, Henry Moore, Madelyn Moore, John Thomas Moore, III, Aaron Rogers, Brandon Rogers, Addison Moore and Justin Stephens. Mr. Moore touched many people in a special way. He was a loving son and brother, devoted husband, and a pillar of strength and wisdom for his children and grandchildren. His words of encouragement and support inspired many people toward personal growth and success. Everyone who knew him was a better person for the experience. Mr. Moore's family wishes to acknowledge special friends; the staffs of the Memory Support unit and Skilled Care unit of Spring Harbor, Vista Care Hospice, Johnny Pryor, Alice Davis, Tracy Pryor, Chiffany Lawrence, Brenda Jenkins, and Mary Pryor.
