Wayne K. Jaquess, 78, of Grammer, died at 1 p.m. Monday, March 22, 2010, at his home.
Mr. Jaquess was a 1949 graduate of Owensville High School and a 1957 graduate of Indiana University, with a bachelor’s degree in business.
He came to farming through his marriage but found in it a career which he loved, farming in the Grammer area from 1958 until his retirement. In 1970, he won the Pioneer 10-Acre-Yield Contest for Indiana.
He served on the Bartholomew Consolidated School Board from 1980 through 1984 and was recognized for his work in the development and improvement of the vocational curriculum in BCSC schools.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Masonic Lodge.
He formerly was an active member of Grammer Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon, an elder, a youth leader and a Sunday school teacher.
He enjoyed spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren, was a die-hard fan of Indiana University athletics and especially enjoyed watching IU football and basketball games.
A Navy veteran, Mr. Jaquess served from 1950 to 1954 in East Asia and California.
The funeral will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Myers-Reed Chapel on 25th Street with the Rev. Mitchell J. Coggin officiating. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 9:30 a.m. until service time Friday. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of South Central Indiana.
Born in Owensville June 19, 1931, Mr. Jaquess was the son of William Stewart and Zella Jaquess. He married Martha Ann “Annie” Dickey June 12, 1955, at Grammer Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Jacqueline Sue (Doug) Denny of Grammer; sons, Gary Wayne Jaquess, John Mark Jaquess and Ben (Michelle) Jaquess, all of Grammer, and David Lynn Jaquess of Atlanta, Ga.; sisters, Helen Dunigan and Margaret Bunnell, both of Evansville; and grandchildren, Amberly Jaquess, Ashley Millis, Adam Jaquess, Samantha Denny, Stewart Jaquess, Jessica Jaquess, Amanda Jaquess, Sarah Jaquess and Jenna Jaquess.
