Steve J. Melczer, Sr., age 88 of Dyer, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 4, 2010 at the William J. Riley Memorial Hospice Residence. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 wonderful years, Ethel; son, Steve (Jennifer) Melczer of Dyer; grandson, Craig David Goodall of Dyer; brother, Raymond (Diane) Poczos of Monticello, IN; cousins: Joseph (Rita) Szabo of Colorado and Steve (Lois) Szabo of Michigan; godchildren: Lynne (Tom) Willis of Colorado and Laura (Mike) Fenlon of Michigan. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Poczos; father, John Melczer; sisters: Anne Heffelfinger and Elizabeth Herrold.
Steve proudly served in the U.S. Navy for three and one-half years during WWII on the U.S.S. Rockaway. He was retired from General Motors with over 31 years of service. Steve loved traveling, spending time with family and friends, and entertaining.
