Allen Heilig passed in peace Saturday February 22, 2020 at the age of 74; preceded in death by his wife Geraldine Heilig and wife Kathleen Heilig. Allen was born on April 12, 1945 in Chicago, IL to Charles and Rose Heilig.
Allen served in the United States Air Force between the years 1966 and 1970 and was honorably discharged at the rank of Sergeant. He went on to work as a telephone repairman and central office technician for Illinois Bell, utilizing the skillset he learned while serving his country.
He is survived by his daughters Stacey (Charles) Kolder and Susan (Ryan) Shrieves; sons Mark (Chris) Berrios and Brent Heilig; Grandchildren Nathan, Natalie, Alexander, Samuel; sister in law Carole Walsh; nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
Allen was an active member of the Skokie community serving as a Boy Scout Troop Leader as his son pursued and earned the rank of Eagle Scout. Allen and family devoted their time to community service initiatives in an effort to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association for many years.
Allen was a selfless human being whom touched the lives of so many. He will forever be remembered for his kindness, generosity, love for his family, love of bowling, and his famous phone and in person goodbye statement of “love you back”.
Family, friends, and others whose lives Allen touched are invited to a visitation at Oehler Funeral Home 2099 Miner Street, Des Plaines, IL 60016 from 3:00 - 8:00 pm on Thursday, February 27 to reminisce and grieve. Funeral services will be held at Oehler Funeral Home Friday February 28 at 11:00 am followed by a ceremony gravesite at Maryhill Catholic Cemetery 8600 N. Milwaukee Avenue, Niles, IL. In lieu of flowers the family welcomes memorial donations to the Rock Valley College Scholarship Foundation as an expression of sympathy, to be utilized to assist adults who have intellectual disabilities to participate in post-secondary educational opportunities.
