

Carolyn Elizabeth “Betty” Moore went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, February 22,2017, in Jackson, MI. She was 86 years of age. She was born October 6, 1930 to John and Jewell Bates in Centre, Alabama. She was the oldest of three children. Her siblings Thomas Lee Bates and Glenda Dell Pearce preceded her in death. She spent many extended periods of time during her youth with her beloved Aunt Myrtle and Uncle Arthur on a farm in AL. She shared a variety of interesting stories of her time on the farm and growing up. “Betty” moved to Michigan in the early 1950's. She enjoyed a long career at the Ann Arbor Kmart in a variety of roles, including Personnel Director. She was commended numerous times for her leadership skills and honored when named Employee of the Year. Her family enjoyed many gatherings and activities at the family home in Saline, MI. She enjoyed volunteering at her church, sewing, crafts, bowling, taking care of her children/grandchildren and hosting social gatherings. She was generous and caring to people she met. Following retirement in 1992 Betty and Bill relocated to Melbourne, FL. She and her husband Bill's retirement years were committed to serving in local churches and community organizations. She was involved with: leading home Bible studies, church music, ladies ministry, prayer ministry and caring for needs of many people who crossed her path. the food bank at Church of the Living Waters, Melbourne, FL was named for Bill and Betty Moore. While in Florida family continued to be a large part of her life with frequent trips for family visits. Due to health concerns Betty and Bill relocated to Chelsea, MI to be closer to her children in 2012. Residing first at the Pines most recently at Legacy. David her youngest son was devoted in being a part of her daily life. Her husband of 52 years, Bill Moore, was dedicated to the care of his wife. He continues to reside at the Legacy in Jackson, MI. Betty is survived by her: Husband – Bill Moore Children – Joey Pierce of Tecumseh, MI; Joe “Butch” (Pam) Pierce of Taylor, MI; David (Val) Pierce of Dexter, MI; Barb (Scott) Leslie of Coronado, CA; and Brenda Sue Reid of Frederick, MD. Janice Manning preceded Betty in death. Grandchildren – Brian, Jeff, Jason, Kasey, Kelley, Debbie, Erik, Jakob, Kristofer and Rex. Great Grandchildren – Joe, Sylvia, Carolyn, Lexi and Logan. Visitation was held Saturday, February 25, 9:30 until time of service at 10:30 at Hosmer-Muehlig Funeral Chapel, Dexter, MI. Donations suggested to a Food Bank would have been Betty's preference.
