Joan I. Cook

April 14, 1930 – April 4, 2015

Beloved mother of Erica (George), Deborah, and Nicola. Joan died peacefully after a short illness. She will be deeply missed by her daughters, her four grandchildren, Fiona and Frazer (Dalrymple) and Kailan and Jenning (Leung), her friends and extended family. Predeceased by her husband, Douglas in 2013. Joan will be remembered for her contributions to the insurance industry in Great Britain and in Canada. Of particular note, was her association with the Prudential Assurance Company where she worked for twenty years before retiring as Vice-President of Management Services. Joining the work force of a necessity at age 16, Joan built a successful career and served as a role model for her three daughters by taking on challenging professional roles, at a time when women had limited opportunities to advance. She concurrently balanced her growing responsibilities with raising three daughters. Joan was a talented, loyal and generous mother, sister, friend and colleague and will be dearly missed by all who were fortunate to know her.

Joan lives on through her family and in the wonderful gardens she helped create in England, Quebec, Ontario and British Columbia. A celebration of life will take place in the early summer, when the English roses are at their best and her first great grandchild has been born.
