Dorothy Paul, age 69, of Plantation, Florida entered eternal rest on Monday, May 23, 2022. Dorothy was born April 19, 1953, and was fondly known as Dor and affectionately as Grandma and Mom. Once married, her last name was "Titus". She would later divorce and that marriage produced 2 children. She is survived by her son Jermaine and daughter-Nicole; her 4 grandchildren, Jelani, Olexa, Kymani, and Jayden, along with her siblings, extended family members, and dear friends.
She is preceded in death by her Mother-Ruby Savariau, Father-Alexander Paul, and sister Barbara "Betty" Paul.
Dorothy began her career as a cosmetologist, and thrived at her craft. She was sought-after for her gifted talent in the land of her birth Jamaica, West Indies, as well as in New York City, USA. She worked tirelessly in her career owning her own cosmetology business that started at her home with an extension on the property before relocating to Great George's Street in Savanna-la-mar, Westmoreland, where she grew even more in popularity. She decided to spread her wings overseas in NYC, where she developed her skills introducing her loyal clientele in Jamaica to the latest hairstyles for decades. While in NYC she stretched herself even more and ventured into home health care, once again dedicating herself to another career taking care of others. She will continue in the health care field until she became ill in 2019.
Our mother had a flair for life, cooking, fashion and interior design. She loved entertaining her friends and family with amazing meals in a beautiful ambiance she meticulously created. She took pride in her appearance and how she presented herself and in whatever she prepared while making everything look effortless. She enjoyed listening and dancing to music while humming or singing out of tune sometimes . It always put a smile on all of our faces, as when she loved a song, she played it on repeat for months, with unwavering excitement. She never compromised on her taste in style; she liked what she liked or loved and made no apologies for it. She was a class act, funny and witty, it was never a dull moment with her.
Her compassion for humanity extended to many, especially children in need by sponsoring charities such as "Save The Children" and donating to "St. Jude's Children's Hospital". She was always there in times of need for her family and friends, ready to supply a need and some wants.
She took great pride in being a very hard worker, rarely taking time for herself, so much so she refused to stay still during the height of her illness while in pain. Her strength was unimaginable as she never lost the will to do things "Her Way", even if her body wasn't able. Determined doesn't seem to begin to describe the fortitude she possessed that have sustained her through these past few years leading up to her passing. When mom told me, "I'm so tired", I believed her, as she rarely accepted help or just chose to do things herself. It was very hard to watch at times.
Our family takes comfort in knowing that her suffering has ended, but her spirit lives on forever in our hearts. She will be greatly missed by those who love her dearly. Thank you to everyone who diligently cared for our mom during her time of need. May God continue to bless you and keep you and your families. Your kindness will never be forgotten.
A memorial service for Dorothy will be held Thursday, July 21, 2022, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 2401 Southwest 64th Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33317.
