Obituario de Mrs. Beryl Iona Neita Blair
Our hearts are completely broken to inform family and friends that our beloved Beryl Iona Neita Blair departed this life Sunday, October 2, 2022. Beryl was 94 and a long-time resident of Port St. Lucie, Florida. Beryl Iona Neita Blair was born July 27, 1928 to Harold Claudfield Neita and Adella Pryce in St. Catherine Jamaica, WI. Beryl was raised by her grandmother, (Diddy) Mariam Sharpe—whom she adored and whom she credited for laying the groundwork of her Christian belief which became the foundation for her life. Beryl was preceded in death by her loving husband Uken A. Blair, whom she married in 1967; father, Harold Claudfield Neita; mother, Adella Pryce; and sister, Euna May Thames. Early education for Beryl began at Mt. Industry School in Jamaica, WI. Beryl graduated from the University of the West Indies with a degree in nursing. And in 1990 Beryl graduated cum laude from York College of the City University of New York with a Bachelor of Science degree in community health. Beryl’s nursing education would forever change and shape her life as well as the lives of many of her relatives. Beryl’s education at the University of the West Indies—she was Nurse #16—was second to none. Because of the exemplary training received at the University of the West Indies, Beryl and her classmates were able to easily travel and apply their training throughout the world. They delivered much needed nursing care in the UK, Canada, and United States. Being the trailblazer that she was, Beryl utilized her education and clinical expertise in Canada and the United States. While in Canada, she was recruited by the United States Government. You see, during that time the United States was experiencing a severe nursing shortage. The United States Government specifically asked for Beryl to come to the Sates to help. Beryl also worked private duty and she cared for many VIP patients in the United States and overseas. Beryl had the biggest and the most caring heart. She loved people, especially her family. Over the years she opened her heart and home to many people from Jamaica. Throughout her life, Beryl was a worldwide traveler. There was not a continent she did not visit at least once. She would tell stories, often hilarious ones—she was a great storyteller—of her travels to Italy, Japan, Egypt, Hawaii, Canada, Morocco, Lisbon, Portugal, and more. During her retirement years, Beryl’s artistic ability blossomed. Painting became her passion. In her retirement, Beryl became an artist, a self-taught painter no less. Her favorite medium was oil on canvas and her favorite subjects were animals and nature. She painted beautiful birds, animals, and flowers. Entering her home today is like entering an art gallery of her life where her oil paintings adorn the walls of her home and garage. Beryl leaves to cherish her memories son, Michael H. Blair (Alpha Teresa); sisters, (Ruby) Carmen J. Thompson and (Pearlie) Pearl J. Thompson; and host of nieces, nephews, cousins, special friends, classmates, neighbors, and former co-workers. Beryl Iona Neita Blair is gone now but all of us will never ever forget her!
