Elbert confessed his faith in Christ at an early age and united with the St. John Baptist Church, where he served under the leadership of Pastor Drinks, Pastor James Bledsoe, Pastor Alexander Sleet, and now Pastor Marcus Lowe. He and his siblings were very active in Sunday School. As a dedicated member, he loved his church. He later became a member of the Trustee Board, the Deacon Board, the Male Chorus, and various male gospel groups in the city.
The love story of Deacon Wyatt and Willie Dean Burt Wyatt began in May 1957 when they got married, marking the start of their 67-year partnership. They created a close-knit family and a welcoming home, brimming with love, laughter, and strong moral principles. Deacon Wyatt had multiple jobs during his life and retired from General Electric after 30-plus years.
As a hobby, he loved going to the YMCA and wanted to be a muscle man. His love for singing was immense, and he aimed to sing with the same power and grace as The Mighty Clouds of Joy. Loving the Lord was his greatest passion. He was a person who had a lot of compassion and generosity. Deacon would go out of his way to visit those who were sick or confined to their homes, providing them with words of encouragement, prayers, and, above all, the sacrament of communion. He was fully dedicated.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his dedicated, and loving wife, Willie Dean Wyatt; son, Chris (Evelyn) Wyatt of Jacksonville, Florida; daughters, Ronnell (Ivan) Stevens of San Antonio, Texas, and Rochelle (James) Singleton of Jacksonville, Florida; grandchildren, Anashay Wright, Sena Ojo, Christopher (Evelyn) Wyatt , Christian Wyatt, Lennix Stevens, Landon Stevens, Jadyn Singleton, Ethan Singleton; great-grandchildren, Chance Wright, Karis Wright and David Adeshyan; brother, Odell Wyatt; sister-in-law, Jinniel Wyatt; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Cindia (Stewart) Wyatt; daughters, Brenda Wyatt Ojo and Cynthia Wyatt; brothers, Mitchell Wyatt, and Ellis Wyatt; sisters, Ruthie Wyatt, Earlee Williams, and Luella Jones.
Elbert Wyatt’s life was a testament to the power of love, faith and family.
