Deloris Gilbert

Mom, Mammaw, Sister, Friend

July 4, 1938 – June 16, 2021

God presented the world with Deloris, known to all as Dordie on July 4th, 1938, as a Firecracker with the brightest natural red hair. She inherited her fathers’ sense of humor, and her greatest blessing was being able to make the world laugh.

She met her soul mate at 15 and after 2 dates, a short long-distance relationship, Earl proposed, and she convinced her parents to take her to marry the love of her life on September 25, 1953. They cherished each other for 56 years and had three amazing sons Gary, Randy and Tim. She raised her boys with love and taught them respect and a strong work ethic but also taught them how to laugh and enjoy life.

The boys gifted her with three daughters-in-law Linda, Tammy and Starla which gave her the shopping buddies she always wanted as well as 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

She had an amazing gift of gab and combined with her sense of humor, red hair, and mischievous ways she earned the nickname of “Lucy”. She absolutely loved the frequent practical jokes the boys would play on her. Her keen sense of observation of people and life could make anyone giggle. She also enjoyed music, especially country and gospel, playing the piano and occasionally the violin. She had a creative soul and used it to decorate their beautiful home, sew and of course add the sparkle and bling-bling to everything she enjoyed.

Dordie’s bubbly personality, constant smile, and kind heart made her much more than a relative or friend, she was a cherished sister, mom or aunt to everyone.

She loved God and believed in Jesus Christ as her savior and while we will all miss her for now, we shall see her again one day.

many nieces, nephews.
