Kenneth Lebron Fears, aka "Dirt", formerly of Chattanooga, Tennessee, passed away June 15, 2020 at the age of 64 in Milpitas, California.
Ken's life began June 1955 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He had a fun-filled childhood amongst family and friends. Ken was a graduate of Riverside High School, Class of 1973. He competed in sports, football and basketball, hence his alias "Dirt". Ken would fondly reminisce these memories.
Ken had a "life long dream" to live in California since the age of 5. In 1977, his arrival to Sunnyvale, California was the beginning of this dream. Ken loved California, especially "the people". His love of the state's beaches along the Pacific Coast always brought him peace. One of his favorite past times -- driving the coast with the music loud and windows open.
Upon his arrival, he worked in various trades. It was not until 1979 that Ken started his career in Healthcare. He held many jobs in Santa Clara County. Ken's majority of employment took place at Good Samaritan Hospital of San Jose, last 25 years, with his last position as a Surgical Assistant. He also held the same position at Washington Hospital of Fremont for over 15 years.
Ken had a great passion for Bay Area sports. He appreciated all; the professional, collegiate, and high school levels. Ken's love for the San Francisco 49ers was unending. His favorite decade was the "80's". Candlestick Park held so many memories. It sadden him over the loss, but he enjoyed the new facilities that came thereafter...Levi Stadium, AT&T Park, and Chase Center. College football was favored also. Ken cherished his boys. They competed in YMCA Basketball, Little League Baseball, High School Football and Track & Field, and College Football. He was so proud of their achievements.
If it was not for sports, Ken would be infatuated with his music. He listened to a great variety of genres, he favored Classic Soul and R&B. His collection goes to that of vinyl records. Ken celebrated live music frequently from outdoor concerts at the Concord Pavilion to small, intimate venues like Yoshi's.
Ken met his wife, Mary Jane (MJ), in May 1981. Since August 1981, they have been inseparable. The two shared their love for music, movies, sports, travel, and family. They were each others "heart and soul". It has been said that their love of 39 years was to be emulated!! From their love, two sons, Kenneth (33yrs) and Kameron (28yrs) Fears became a wonderful addition. They all remain in California.
Ken was preceded in death by his Father, Joe Fears,SR; and brothers, Michael Fears, and Joe Fears,JR, all of Tennessee. Survivors include his wife of 39years, Mary Jane Quitalig-Fears of California; his mother, Mary C. Benion of Chattanooga,TN; sons, Kenneth W. Fears and Kameron L. Fears, both of California, and Carnell (Stannie) Penn of Jacksonville, FL; daughter, ShaQuanda (James) McCallie of Chattanooga, TN; brothers, Darrell (Florie) Fears of California, and Derek Amour of Chattanooga, TN; sisters, Anita Fears, Barbara Dave, and Linda (Robert) Bailey, all of Chattanooga, TN; his cousin Roger (Margaret) Long of California who brought him to California; and his very dear friend since childhood, Bernard Jones of Chattanooga, TN; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Ken's Celebration of Life: Sunday, July 26th, 2020 at Lima Family Mortuary Milpitas-Fremont.
