She was born on September 9, 1920 in Curryville, Missouri to Victoria Sutton
Lamme and Ray Farrell Lamme.
Upon graduation from Curryville High School, she entered cosmetology school in
St. Louis, Mo.
Her first job was being a stylist and masseur at a shop in Collinsville, IL. A few years later, Clara and her sister Hazel worked together in a salon in Vandalia, Mo. Later Clara married Jimmy Stevens and had her only child, Barbara Jane (Janie).
It was in March of 1946, after her divorce, that Clara and Janie moved to Fulton, Mo. She began her life in Fulton working for Dorothy Carr’s Beauty Shop and then began her 30 year tenure at the Missouri School for the Deaf. She taught cosmetology and some sewing classes.
Clara married Don Kurtz on August 14, 1954 in Fulton, Mo. As a couple they enjoyed years of golf and traveled various places to play golf. Upon her retirement in 1980, Clara volunteered at S K’s, a local beauty shop, as well as playing golf.
Survivors include her daughter, Janie Stevens, of McKinney, TX.; Stepsons Denton Kurtz and his wife Gail of Fulton, MO.; Gerald Kurtz of California; step grandson Denton Kurtz II and his wife Eileen and their sons Quentin and Cameron of Ft. Collins, CO.; her sister Hazel of Warsaw, MO., and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life service will be held at Debo Funeral Home, 833 Court Street, Fulton, Missouri on December 2, 2016. Visitation will be from 1-2:00 p.m. with a Memorial Service at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Callaway Memorial Gardens.
