

Evelyn Tintera, age 90, passed away peacefully at her Georgetown home on Friday, May 16, 2014. She was born and raised in Illinois, the eldest of two daughters of Josephine and John Polakovic of Cicero, Illinois.
Evelyn was a licensed airplane pilot at the age of 15, a graduate of Morton High School and later of Northwestern University. She was married for 59 years to James B. Tintera, who preceded her in death. They lived in Michigan where Jim was a professor at both Michigan State and Wayne State Universities. Evelyn was Executive Secretary of the Michigan Library Association and later the Friends of the Detroit Library, until their retirement in 1980. Ev and Jim were founders and senior trustees for over 50 years of the John F. Polakovic Charitable Trust which has and continues to provide university scholarships to Morton High School students.
Originally retiring to South Carolina, Evelyn and Jim moved to Texas in 1988 to be near their beloved son, John. Evelyn loved entertaining, traveling and being with family and friends. She enjoyed gourmet cooking and was an avid collector of vintage cookbooks.
Evelyn is survived by her son, John Tintera and wife Jenna, her daughter Pat and son-in-law Bill Bowman, seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Friends are invited to a visitation with the family from 6:00P.M. to 8:00P.M. on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home, 2900 Williams Drive, Georgetown. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00P.M. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00A.M. on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at St. Helen Catholic Church, 2700 East University, Georgetown with interment to follow at Our Lady of the Rosary Cemetery.
