John H. (Jay) Worsham, Jr. went to be with his LORD quietly while at his home in Umatilla, FL on May 8, 2014. He was 71 years old. Born to Howard and ClaraBelle Worsham in Orlando, FL, he graduated from Lakeview High School and went on to achieve his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Rollins College, where he graduated with honors. After graduation he married Mary Gardner and they made their home on Lake Rose in West Orange County, raising three children, Kathy, John and Bill.
After growing up as a member of the Orlando Reformed Presbyterian Church, his natural ability as a leader was put to use as music director, deacon and elder in the church.
For thirty years he worked for the City of Orlando as Bureau Chief of Fleet Maintenance and as Director of Administrative Support. Following retirement Jay worked briefly as a commercial real estate agent. When an opportunity to sell a horse ranch in Lake County presented itself, he saw this as God’s direction for him. He quickly recognized it as an ideal place for family and friends to gather. Jay and Mary moved to the country, where they were frequently joined by family members and friends. After this move, they joined the New Hope Presbyterian Church where he again served as an Elder.
Jay’s love for His Lord and a desire to serve Him and the people around him, led him to minister in a variety of churches, teaching and discipling others. Here, as everywhere he went, he kept those around him laughing and light hearted with his gentle humor and thoughtful ways.
His love for God and people was demonstrated by his generosity and willingness to help anyone in need. He enjoyed many aspects of God’s creation, including raising animals, fishing, farming, and sitting on the porch watching a good rain storm.
Jay is survived by his wife Mary and children Kathy, John, and Bill; as well as Jeff Milroy, Kathy’s husband and their six children Kayla, Jayson, Kyle, Justin, Jared and Keenan, and John’s wife Bonnie and daughter Abby. He is also survived by his brother Joe Worsham and his family and sister Susan Worsham Vogt and her family.
Those wishing to celebrate his life may join us at Woodlawn Cemetery for the Graveside Service at 2:00 pm on Tuesday May 13th, the Reception following, and/or the Memorial Service to be held at New Hope Presbyterian Church in Eustis at 6:30pm with a Reception following.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Life Choices of Lake County, a ministry that was close to Jay's heart.
Arrangements are under the care of Woodlawn Funeral Home.
