Allen was the first of his family to attend University, he graduated with a BA and Master’s degree in Engineering from the University of Minnesota. At one of the school dances, he met his wife Patricia Rose Scannell, and four short weeks later, they were engaged to be married. Allen worked for several corporations in the technology field; he was proud to be involved in creating the first super computer, in the early 60’s. Yes, the one that filled a very large room.
Their family grew with the addition of three children; William, Paul and Leah. They raised their family in the suburbs of Minneapolis. Allen, Patricia and their children enjoyed traveling. When they started traveling in their motorhome to visit family, it was a benefit that there was a bathroom on board. For it was Allen’s priority to get to the destination as quick as possible. They traveled coast to coast, mostly out west, as far as Seattle. For the bicentennial, they visited their son, Bill, stationed at the Coast Guard Base in Norfolk, Virginia. They enjoyed the incredible fireworks display to celebrate the 4th of July. One of Allen and Patricia’s favorite activities in the 80’s was learning all types of dances at Arthur Murray’s dance studio. They were proud to show off their newly learned “Dirty Dancing” moves at any opportunity.
Paul, their second child, born with Down Syndrome, truly enjoyed going to school and being with other children, solely because of their work with an advocacy group for education of persons with Down Syndrome.
In 1996, Patricia and Allen moved to Glade Park, Colorado to build their log home, with the help of family, on a beautiful piece of land above the Colorado National Monument. They enjoyed having neighbors over for various celebrations and continued traveling to Billings and Minneapolis to visit relatives and friends. When at home they were often found enjoying breakfast at Lois’ or Village Inn while in Grand Junction.
Allen’s love and devotion to Patricia shone daily with his unfailing commitment to visiting her at LaVilla Grande Care Center for eight years..
Allen was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patricia, his son Paul Osberg, his parents, his brother and sister-in-law, James and Betty Osberg, his sister and brother-in-law Elaine and Lee Suchy.
Survived by his son, William (Melody) Osberg of Elbow Lake, Minnesota, and his daughter Leah (Jeffery) Lyon of Grand Junction, Colorado, five grandchildren; Jason (Courtney) Lyon, Christopher (Jo) Osberg, Andria (Lyon) (Dan) Earnshaw, Andrew Osberg, Allison Osberg, five great grandchildren, Joshua, Alex, Calvin and the twins Kaylee and Korra.
