Charles Helmes Johle, Jr. passed away Thursday afternoon, February 18, 2021 at the age of 93 following a long illness. Charles was born on July 20, 1927 to Gertrude and Charles Helmes Johle, Sr. in Houston, Texas. He graduated from Austin High School in Houston and enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp during World War II. He loved to share stories about his time in the Marines and took great pride in having served his country.
After his military service, he attended Electrical Trade School for five years to become an Electrician and spent his entire career practicing his trade as a member of the IBEW Local Union #716. Charles was also a Mason and member of the A&A Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, SJ, USA and was very proud of his affiliation with them.
Charles was Baptized at West University Baptist Church in 1947 and later he and his wife Betty became members of Memorial Baptist Church in 1965. He loved attending Memorial Baptist Church and the fellowship with his church family where he participated in Bible Study classes, Sunshine Club events, trips to Trinity Pines and dart baseball.
He also enjoyed many outdoor activities including camping, deer hunting, and fishing. He also enjoyed birthday parties, especially his own. Friends and family will remember his parting words, “Be Particular”, they often heard him say after visits with Charles.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents and niece, Debbie Keefer. He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Betty Barber Johle, his daughters Judy Blundell and her husband Albert of Mooringsport, Louisiana and Nancy Keller and her husband Marc of Spring, Texas. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Steve Champion, Jr. and wife Stephanie, Lori Bookout and her husband Robby, Jennifer Miller, Casey Keller, and Amy Keller and 10 Great-Grandchildren, his sister-in-law Shirley Banks and nieces Connie Moore and Janie Johnson and nephew Mike Downey.
Betty and family wish to express their heart felt gratitude and appreciation for the outstanding care given to Charles by Rachelle Petika, Kim Kirkland, Sasha Neita, and Stella Larramendi during his extended illness, it was truly a blessing.
Services will be held on March 3, 2021 at Memorial Baptist Church located at 22333 Kuykendahl Rd., Spring, Tx. 77379 with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. and the service beginning at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Earthman Resthaven Cemetery on Interstate 45 North in Houston.
Pallbearers: Mike Downey, Marc Keller, Steve Champion Jr., Kaden Champion, Robby Bookout, Brandon Bookout, Robert Antis, and Dan Rankin.
